“How much is upper eyelid surgery?”

“What do you charge for cheek filler?”

“What does a tummy tuck cost?”

Hi, I’m Amy Anderson, practice management consultant. Let’s face it: Cost is one of the top concerns for patients calling your practice. Addressing it early helps build trust and ensures your patients feel informed and empowered from the start.

Step 1: Listen First

Start by listening. When a patient asks about the price of a service, take a moment to understand their needs. For example:

“That’s a great question; I’m happy to give you a price range. May I first ask a few questions to better understand what you’re looking for?”

Step 2: Be Transparent About Costs

Once you have more details, give a range, starting with the higher price:

“When it comes to pricing, a tummy tuck could be as much as $18,000, but that’s unusual. The typical fee is around $15,000, and that includes Dr. Smith’s fee as well as fees for the OR, anesthesia provider and your pre- and post-operative visits.”

Step 3: Introduce Financing Options

Now, introduce flexible financing options like CareCredit:

“We accept a variety of payment options, including the CareCredit credit card. If you’re approved, you can use it to make convenient monthly payments to help fit your budget. Many of our patients appreciate this flexibility, especially for larger treatments.”

Step 4: Invite Next Steps

Wrap up the call by making it easy for the patient to move forward:

“The first step is a consultation with Dr. Smith so we can give you a more accurate estimate. We have an opening on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm – would that work for you?”

Discussing fees and financing early helps manage surprises and sticker shock and helps your patients feel confident about moving forward on their aesthetic journey.
