Spare tire. Muffin top. A gut. If you're carrying extra weight in your midsection, it may not only be negatively impacting your confidence, but your health, too. Extra belly fat has been connected to an increased risk of diseases like heart disease, fatty liver disease, diabetes, cancer and polycystic ovary syndrome.1

While diet, exercise, sleep and stress reduction can all help play a role in reducing fat in the midsection, a procedure called Lipo 360 can also help remove stubborn pockets of fat on the abdomen, waist and back.2

What Is Lipo 360?

Lipo 360, or circumferential liposuction, is an outpatient surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat from the entire midsection, including the abdomen, flanks and back. Lipo 360 is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss solution.2

Lipo 360 vs. traditional liposuction

Lipo 360 uses the same surgical procedure as traditional liposuction to remove fat from the body. However, liposuction traditionally treats only one area at a time, whereas Lipo 360 combines treatments to address the torso from 360 degrees during the same procedure.

While Lipo 360 is designed to treat the midsection, traditional liposuction can treat a wider variety of areas, including the thighs, arms, ankles, buttocks or face.3

How Much Does Lipo 360 Cost?

The average cost range for a Lipo 360 procedure is between $2,000 and $7,000, depending on the extent of fat removed from the midsection.4 According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of liposuction is $3,637.8

The cost of Lipo 360 can also vary based on the surgical center, surgeon fees, use of general anesthesia and geographic location.8

Does insurance cover Lipo 360?

Lipo 360 is considered a cosmetic procedure and is usually not covered by health insurance.8 Some Lipo 360 providers may offer in-house financing to help patients pay for the procedure over time.

Where Can Lipo 360 Be Used?

Lipo 360 is designed to treat the front, back and sides of the midsection. This can include treating any of the following body areas:2

  • Upper and lower abdomen
  • Obliques
  • “Love handles"
  • Flanks
  • Upper, middle and lower back
  • Presacral triangle4
  • Mons pubis4

Benefits of Lipo 360

Lipo 360 can have a number of benefits for improving the appearance of the midsection, physical comfort and personal confidence.2

  • Treat the entire torso during one procedure
  • Flatter abdomen
  • “Love handle" removal
  • Trimmer waist or hourglass figure
  • Removed “muffin top"
  • Reduced skin chafing
  • Removed fat can be used for other procedures
  • Improved clothing fit
  • Improved confidence

Can Lipo 360 be combined with other procedures?

Some patients may choose to combine Lipo 360 with other cosmetic procedures, such as a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), fat transfer breast augmentation or other body contouring procedure.4

Since both a Brazilian butt lift and fat transfer breast augmentation utilize a patient's own fat tissue, the procedures are easily combined with Lipo 360 to create a more contoured silhouette at the same time.5

Other patients may opt for Lipo 360 with a tummy tuck that can remove excess skin and tighten abdomen muscles in addition to removing excess fat tissue.6

The Lipo 360 Procedure

Before deciding if Lipo 360 is right for you, learn more about the Lipo 360 consultation process, procedure, recovery, risks and results.

Lipo 360 consultation

If you're considering Lipo 360, the first step is to set up an initial consultation with a qualified provider who can discuss your concerns and goals, explain the Lipo 360 procedure, review your health history and suggest additional treatments or procedure options to consider.4

Who is a good candidate for Lipo 360?

Ideal candidates for Lipo 360 will have stubborn excess fat in the midsection. Individuals should be in overall good health, at or near their target weight and have good skin elasticity in the midsection.2

What to expect during a Lipo 360 procedure

Lipo 360 is usually performed under local anesthesia, so most patients will be numb but awake. However, some providers may also offer general anesthesia. The procedure can take from one to three hours depending on the extent of the fat removal and any complementary procedures being performed.4

During the procedure, small incisions will be made in the treatment areas and a numbing liquid injected. The liquid works to both numb the surrounding area and compress the blood vessels to reduce the risk of bruising, as well as soften the fat deposits for easier removal.4

Next, a thin tube is inserted into the treatment areas to extract the fat cells. If you are having a BBL or fat transfer breast augmentation at the same time, the removed fat cells will be sterilized and readied for reinsertion. Then, the incisions will be closed.4

What to expect during Lipo 360 recovery

After the Lipo 360 procedure, patients will be wrapped in a compression garment to reduce swelling and help with the healing process. You may also be given pain medication to deal with any discomfort. Bruising, swelling and soreness are normal after Lipo 360, and many patients are able to resume most of their normal daily activities within a few days of the procedure.2

It is important to follow all postoperative care instructions from your surgeon, attend follow-up appointments and reach out for support if you experience any bleeding, severe pain or signs of infection.2

Lipo 360 Results

Following a Lipo 360 procedure, swelling can last for a few weeks. While you may notice some improvements in the midsection immediately following the procedure, final results commonly take two to three months to appear,2 and may take up to ten months for some.4

Since the Lipo 360 procedure physically removes fat cells, results can be permanent for patients who maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, excessive weight gain can cause fat cells in the midsection to return.4

What are the risks and complications of Lipo 360?

Common side effects from Lipo 360 include bruising, swelling and soreness. However, other complications are possible, including:7

  • Reaction to anesthesia
  • Skin numbness
  • Damage to nerves, blood vessels or muscles
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Edema
  • Infection
  • Bumpy, irregular or asymmetrical results
  • Loose skin
  • Poor wound healing

If you are not happy with your results, talk with your provider about other treatment options.
